Every season there are certain trends that represent the world of fashion and what it wants to express for the following six months. As I spoke about in Mondays post, I think it is so important to be your own person when it comes to style and dont feel that you have to try every trend, but in saying that, when worn with confidence trends can be playful and chic. They can also be a way to subtly change up your look if you want to temporarily try something different and your not too sure! This spring/summer there are some unique trends that I am not neccesarily sure I would be able to rock but I do adore how they can be styled and I feel like they could grow on me! Purple ReignLavender is certainly the colour of the season with everyone from Victoria Beckham to Erdem showcasing stunning pieces from their collections in the heavenly hue. There are some stronger tones of purple popping up also and some nods to the trend with accessories but lavender is the reigning colour of the season without doubt. Getting PlaidPlaid is not neccesarily a trend I would usually go for but I have been loving the more subtle approach to it on this years catwalks. I adore the oversized check blazer and denim look and when its done right it can be so chic! I have linked a few of my favourite high street blazers for this season in a recent post linked here if you want to try out the trend: >go-to-pieces-myultimate-collection.html Belt UpThe return of the belt bag is one I welcome with open arms this season. Stylish and practical, they are the new it bag for this SS and can easily be dressed up or down depending on the look. This is one trend I can definitely see myself trying out. Scarf StyleScarves are a firm wardrobe favourite of mine. They are so versatile and elegant and look just as good draped around the neck as delicately tied in a bow on your favourite handbag. The silk scarf was showcased as a headscarf on this seasons runways reflecting a more maybe old fashioned era with a modern twist. I adore the reminance of a movie starlet strolling in St Tropez that the look creates. Being honest, I dont have enough scarves myself and I feel that it would be more my personal style to drape the scarf through the ponytail, rather than over the entire head! Ill save that for the moviestar-esque girls!! FringingFringing represents playful fun fashion. It adds texture and interest to basic pieces and it never goes out of style. Designers took a unique approach to the trend this season with Erdem creating a more dark grungy collection and Louis Vuitton creating delicate detailing in theirs. Sports LuxeWho doesnt love comfort and style combined? I for one am happy to see the sports luxe trend sticking around for another season. It is casual yet chic and while I havent yet mastered the tracksuit pants and barely there heels look, I wont give up on trying! Sheer DelightSo there you have it, my thoughts on some of this seasons dominant trends. I adore some and others will grow on me but whatever the case I will stay true to my own style. I would love to hear your thoughts on the trends? What are your favourites? Are there any you have tried? I look forward to trying some of them out this weekend.
Happy Friday! Until next time, Jen X

I was thinking about style over the weekend. What makes style personal? What makes it stand out? What does it express? I've spoken on Style Sanctuary before about the importance of staying true to your own style and in wearing what you choose to show who you are. Sometimes, I wonder whether my own style has become too 'uniform' but I have grown to realise that you shouldn't change your signature style because of seasonal trends. I wanted to share some key wardrobe staples that I think are easy to mix and match to create different looks and help to make up a capsule wardrobe of versatile pieces! The BootsThe BlazerThe Denim The White Shirt The Longline CoatSo there you have it, my idea of a capsule casual wardrobe. I love how interchangeable all of these pieces are and they could also be accessorised to create a more formal look. For me minimilism is key, but thats just me. These pieces can easily be used in a variety of different looks to suit different styles so just be you! What are your favourite pieces for a capsule collection? I would love to hear your thoughts on the post!

I just love how fun and chic the collection looks and there is a piece for every occasion, from lunch with the girls to a wedding in the sunshine! Happy Shopping Girls! Of course, we couldn't forget the guys and the menswear collection is just as amazing as the ladies. Think colourful prints, minimalisic pieces, fashion forward tracksuits and luxurious accessories. Tailoring has also received a modern makeover with a more oversized and easy wear approach. Each piece can be easily intertwined to create different looks and it is new age fashion at its best. I love how fashion is evolving so much and River Island are behind that all the way, always. This collection just shows that they get better every season, if possible. The intricate details and fabulous stories behind a collection are what makes them unique! You will be delighted to hear that some of the pieces are already instore and online now. Happy Shopping! Until next time, Jen X Every Once in a while something happens that makes us questions what inspires us to do what we love? It was a shaky start to 2018 in the world of blogging, influencers and social media, but I for one have chosen not to focus on all of the negativity. It instead has inspired me to think about the positive power of the sometimes complicated world of social media. 2018 is going to see me focusing a bit more on the 'Sanctuary' side of 'Style Sanctuary' including positive posts and just general thoughts, as well as the usual fashion posts. I thought this was a good one to start off with! Might Not have Met Some Fabulous FriendsThere is something so powerful about a group of women coming together and empowering each other to live out their dreams. Without sounding too cheesy, it really is a major factor in what makes blogging so enjoyable. Starting on a dreary april day back in 2015, I witnessed first hand what can happen when people inspire each other. Following my first blogging event with ITWBN led by the fabulous Retro Flame, I was hooked on the world of blogging. That day was spent meeting and talking to people with so many different interests, from beauty to food and everything in between and the friendships grew from there. Each event brought oppurtunities to meet new people and discover new blogs and I loved it. The power of social media also means that although we might not always get to see the friends we have made along the way, we can always show our support online. Might Not have Began my BlogStarting a blog is not easy. It is a mixture of apprehension and nervous excitement while sharing your style and ideas with the world. Despite all of the bad coverage social media has received of late, for me the world of instagram is what inspired me to begin Style Sanctuary. I loved the idea that you could share inspiration through little squares online and I was lucky enough that the year I began my blog was before the time of over editing or filtering so I got a more real sense of the world of online sharing. I wanted to create a larger more extensive platform on which to share my style and so came Style Sanctuary. For me I feel that if it werent for these social media platforms today, the promotion of my blog would not be so easy and keeping intouch with followers and friends from the blogging world would be near impossible! Might Not always Dress Up & Show UpOne of the major benefits I see to being a fashion blogger is the motivation to always dress up and show up. We all have our bad days but blogging means you have an interest in styling and wearing looks to share with your followers even on days where you might not feel like it. While others may see it as a burden I think its a really good way to do and share something you love and feel good doing so! It takes you to another type of world. Social media allows us to engage easily and further motivate us to dress up & show up and I can only see this as a good thing in an ever changing world!
Ihope you have enjoyed the post and I would love to hear your feedback and thoughts on it! Until next time, Jen X Happy Monday everyone! I hope that you all had a lovely weekend and that Monday went ok! With Christmas just around the corner (it's hard to believe!), I thought what better time to share with you all a post Ive been looking forward to for a while now! This is definitely Style Sanctuary's most personal post to date but I wanted to share some of my own thoughts on blogging in recent weeks. I love to blog. I love to share my style inspiration and ideas and to share my own looks from time to time. I started 'Style Sanctuary' originally as a hobby and I instantly loved everything about blogging. Dont get me wrong, I wont lie I initially began and then deleted my blog due to fear and it took me a while to restart it. I did not begin it for likes or followers but as a way to channel something that I had a huge interest in. However as time has gone on I have realised that each and every one of you that follow me are the reason why I still enjoy blogging so much today. Every like or follow is now the cherry on top of a hobby that I love. I feel that this 'world of blogging' is becoming increasingly competitive and it hard not to feel in the shadows when you have a small blog like mine! But I have learned to look at others successes as inspiration for my little blog and several things in the past few weeks have reminded me why I do what I do. I shared some of my favourite bloggers handles on my instagram and I received the nicest messages from them in response. This might not seem huge to some people but I did not share them for likes or follows but merely to show my genuine inspiration and to share blogs that I look forward to reading myself. Their kind words made me realise that in this community of bloggers being nice is everything. Being nice promotes confidence and inspiration among people. Being nice encourages people to continue to do what they enjoy. Receiving lovely comments about my posts or feed makes it all worthwhile! I hope you all enjoyed the post and I would love to hear your feedback! For now I'm off to plan more posts!Smile, be nice & throw kindness around like confetti.. You never know what your words might inspire...

Jen X The stripe is a style that comes back season after season, year after year. Although often associated with the nautical trend during summer months, stripes can be just as chic with an autumn boot and trench. I adore stripes on a knit, doubled up in a co-ord or more subtley on accessories. Wear with camel and denim for a classy look or with all black for evening elegance. All images taken from Pinterest. The high street is awash with stunning stripes so its never been so easy to tap into the trend. Dont be afraid to invest a little as it is definitely a style you will wear so many times in so many ways! So what are you waiting for-style your stripes now!
